Rufus

A Siamese cat lying down on a quilted surface, under a black metal table or shelf, with a neutral expression.

Loved and remembered at Ahimsa Safe Haven

Rufus arrived at Ahimsa in the summer of 2021, already convinced of one important truth: he was the only cat who mattered and it was our job to catch up.

A resident FeLVie, Rufus preferred to see you strictly on his own terms. His favorite form of communication was the boop. He’d boop you when he wanted attention. Boop you when he didn’t. And boop everyone else just because. He ate all of his food, then helped himself to yours. He yawned directly in your face when you were mid-sentence. He made sure you understood that he was in charge always.

And somehow, in between the attitude and the rules, Rufus gave us so much.

He was warm. He was safe. He was unapologetically himself. Rufus reminded us daily that love doesn’t have to be soft or quiet to be real. Sometimes it comes with boundaries, bossiness, and a well-timed boop.

At the beginning of January 2026, we said goodbye to Rufus.

His time with us was never defined by his diagnosis, but by the life he lived confident, demanding, and completely secure in the knowledge that he was loved. Feline leukemia cats deserve everything, and Rufus made sure we delivered.

Rufus will always be part of Ahimsa Safe Haven.
Still in charge.
Still remembered.
Still loved.
